Reading Create – Climate change

for this week we have been looking at climate change and how it effects us and the world. Our create task were two parts, the first part was that we had this sink template and we had to put pictures of things that I do/use that is bad for the enviroment.  The next part was we had to make connections between our knowledge the text we read and a poem along with coming up with some questions about climate change.

How can we be Champions of Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’. 

 

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are a dove, a world with people around it holding hands, an olive branch. These symbols represent peace because an olive branch is slow growing and didn’t grow during war therefore it was represented as a peace tree. The dove symbolizes deliverance and god forgiveness. Finally the world with the people represents equality. With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because its a lotus flower which means resilience and strength.

 

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about my Mum. I thought this person was a champion of peace because she does so much for everyone in Christchurch and she doesn’t get enough recognition for it but she doesn’t mind; She’s amazing.

 

 

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here. I enjoyed learning about peace because it was fun to see how many people do good in the world and I got to learn more about them.I learnt that there are many different ways people can show peace. 

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping anyone I can when I see them struggling with something.

In reading this week we had to read a book called ¨How to fall¨

Our create was that we had to make a few pages of what we think Maia would write in her diary based on her relationships with the other characters in the book. I did mine on canva and I really enjoyed making it because in involved doing lots of writing and that is one of my strengths.

In my reading workshop after reading the text we all came together and wrote down our thoughts about the text along with that we had to fill out a sheet on a google drawing. The sheet was about identifying Maias relationships with people in the book the her Auntie and Mum.

I really enjoyed reading this book because I feel like it had a good message.

Poetry!

Recently we have been doing poetry, I have not been at school so I have missed out on some lessons but I did manage to do one and I really enjoyed it!

I had to do two list poems about any topic, one of mine was about candy and the other was lions. A list poem is just like writing a list about something, this poem does not have to rhyme but it can if you want.

Spectacular Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. I have done two different experiments so far one battery powered and one solar powered. 

One of the experiments we did was Nailed it! It was a battery powered experiment.

Materials we needed:

  • 4 Nails: 2 copper 2 zinc
  • Buzzer
  • Beaker labelled ´T´full of tap water
  • Empty speciman jar
  • Jar with salt
  • Plastic spoon
  • Empty beaker labelled ´S´ (for discard salty water)
  • Several tissues
  • Sudent handouts: ´nailed it!´

My Hypothesis: before conducting my experiment I thought that it would make a high pitch sound like a little scream.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because instead it started making a beeping high pitch noise this was very interesting for me as I did not expect it! 

 

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing this one the most because it did something I was not expecting it to and I love surprises. I also really enjoyed making this because I have never made anything like it before. Something I found challenging was trying to figure out what I needed to do to make it make the noise.

Twisted Fairy Tales !

Recently we have been making our own twisted fairy tales in writing. We got to pick a fairy tale we like and change a few things about them. I choose to do Little Red Riding Hood I really love doing writing so this is really exciting to me I have already started doing some writing for it.

We were also talking about our prolouge and whether we needed one or not I choose to do one anyway as I feel like my story needed one. Here is my prolouge :

Little Red and her Mother were a happy family until the tragedy happened. Little Red then onward wears her Red cloak in memory of that day. She seeks revenge for the death of her Mother on that dreadful night. But something just doesn’t add up.”

Whats your favourite fairy tale? Mine is probably Snow White!

Wonderful Work !

Recently we have been doing lots of plays in reading ! So far we have done two different workshops with two different plays. One was about a theif trying to steal a painting from an art gallery and the other was about shakesphere. I really enjoy doing these plays I love acting and drama so this is a million percent down my ally ! I have been waiting for the day when we would start doing more drama at school so I really like it and I get to do it with my friends which is even better !

We have also been doing some writing and I have been really liking this as well because we have been doing twisted fairy tales. So basicly we got to choose a fairy tale and then change it up a bit however we want. I chose to do Little Red Riding Hood. Here is my Plan for my narative:

The Spectacular Showcase !

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt about GEM which stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. It has been a great experience! I worked in a group and this was outside my comfort zone because I like working independently. Learning all about the differences between empathy and sympathy was great, I have a way better understanding of the two now. I can also easily explain to someone if they ask me about what GEM means. 

 

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

For the showcase evening I worked with Jiwoo.

We decided to create GEM pot plants because we feel like more and more kids are just staying inside and not going outside into nature as much as they should be. So we felt like this could be a great way for kids to help practice mindfulness. Everytime they see their plant they will be reminded about GEM because they got it from our showcase.

I now know more about what GEM is and how I can use it in my life to be happier. 

Throughout the creating process I feel like I explained and executed what GEM means and how it impacts our day to day life really well. We did have some ups and downs with our group but I feel like we collaborated really well and we had some really good comunication and it all came together in the end.  I could have been better at being a little more organised at the end. It was more of a rush than I would have liked but it’s alright as we got everything done in the end! If I was to do this again I would have a schedule to help me stay on track and less stressed.

This week we have been learning about G.O.A.T’s for our reading we had to choose a G.O.A.T to write about and I ended up choosing Valerie Adams. We had to write a short little discription about our person we chose I really enjoyed this task because i got to learn about a kiwi superstar. I really enjoyed leraning about Valerie Adams I hope to be a G.O.A.T one day as well! I hope to do more writing and learning like this in the future.

How to do a tricky Hold !

This Week we had to make a blog post about something we could teach someone. I did have some struggle at the start but i decided to teach you how to do a hold in aerobics! People also do a hold in gymnastics performances as well. Holds can take a while to learn as they do need a lot of strength to be able to do one. I am still training to be able to do a hold but i am not that far off. I feel like with these tips I can do one very soon if i keep trying! Here is my work from this week feel free to have a look !
